Privacy policy for Greg Kenyon’ Blog (https://greg.kenyonspage.ca and https://greg.kenyonspage.ca).

This privacy policy is meant to help you understand what information may be collected and stored about you when you use this site.  This site does not participate in collecting any information to participate in advertising schemes.

Information Collected

Generally, when you visit this site, you can browse without submitting any personal information about yourself. The site does, however, receive and temporarily store some non-personally identifiable information about you, as described below. In order to subscribe or leave comments, you will be asked to provide personally identifiable information. You can use the site without using these features.

Collection of information is as follows.

1. When you sign up for Email notification of posts the information you provided during sign up is collected. No other information is saved but what you entre, including the name you give, your email address, and the date and time your subscribed. When you begin to process the data is collected. With respect to email notifications, no other data is collected or stored. You will receive and email asking you to confirm you want to receive email notifications. If you do not confirm that you want to receive ail notifications, then after a reasonable period of time waiting for your confirmation, the email provided and all data associated with it will be deleted. If you have signed up and you asked to be removed from Email notification s, your email and all data associated with the Email will be deleted. With the data collected your ip address, location data and type of browser which is available on the internet are not saved.

2. When you make a comment, the comment, the name, email, and url you provide, are collected, along with the IP address and location available on the net. (the type of browser is also available on the net but is not stored with the comment.) All comments are reviewed before posting. If they appear to be spam all information is deleted. If they are posted for public can viewing, the information will be saved, but the Email and IP will not be released unless the law requires it. If you requested your comment not be posted and the site monitor has email communication with you, the data will likely be saved, unless you request it be deleted. If the comment is not posted and there is no email communication the data will be deleted.

It is also important to realize all comments are initially monitored by Akismet Anti Spam. Akismet privacy policy is available here https://automattic.com/privacy-notice/. (It is only the Akismet portion of this policy that applies, as the other services mentioned are not use by this site.  The Akismet policy says,” we collect information about visitors who comment on Sites that use our Akismet anti-spam service. The information we collect depends on how the User sets up Akismet for the Site, but typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL, along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).

3. The third time information is collected occurs every time the site is visited. All visits are monitored by Wordfense, who providing site security. Similar to other websites, some information is collected automatically from you and stored it in log files. This collection may include, but is not limited to: your domain name and host for Internet access, the Internet address of the site from which you came, the date and time of your access, your computer’s IP address and information about its operating system, browser, and host, the date and time you access the Service and the pages you visit. This is provided by your browser and service provider. This information is viewable by the site administrator for about a week before it is deleted. The only data they have access to from this site is mentioned above in this paragraph.)

4. Finally, if you use any of the social media buttons on the site to share site information through a social media site, any information you provide is available to Sassy Social Share. Sassy Social Share’s privacy information is available here http://support.heateor.com/gdpr-and-our-plugins/. (Generally, they nor this site collect any information from your use of the social share button. No record is saved via this site about your use of social share buttons. Data may be collected and stored by the sites you access via share buttons. This site takes no responsibility for information collected by these third parties.

Personal information provided for email notification is used for just that, to inform subscribers via the provided email of new posts when the site decides to inform subscribers of new posts. It may at times be used to send a news letter to the provided email.

Use of Non-Personally Identifiable and Aggregate Information. The site may use non-personally identifiable information and aggregate information to assess how the site is being used. Wordfense states they “may use it for any lawful purpose, including, but not limited to, analyzing trends, managing and administering the Service, tracking users’ movements, for research purposes, or to improve our business and the Service. In addition, we may share aggregate statistical information with our business partners. We may also combine your non-personally identifiable information and aggregate information with other non-personally identifiable information and aggregate information collected from other sources.”

How long your information is retained

Information will be deleted as stated above. Where deletion is not indicated the information will be retained indefinitely, or as long as legally required or allowed. Information may disposed of at the sites discretion without notice, subject to applicable law. This statement does not undertake any retention obligations.

Cookies

Cookies used by this site are small files saved by your browser which allow your browser to remember information about how you want to interact with the site.  This site uses cookies for two purposes.

The first is to inform your browser that you have agreed to the privacy policy.   They are set when you agree to the policy.  If you do not say you agree to the policy,  or you block or delete these cookies you can continue to browse the site but on each page you open the privacy bar will appear.  (It can be closed but will reappear when you move to a new page.

The second time cookies are set is if you choose to have your browser remember your Name, Email and URL when you make a comment.  If you do not chose to do this no cookies are set.

Analytics

This site does not currently attempt to analyse or track site visits, other than short term data collected under item 3 above in the “Information Collected” section of this policy.

Who your information is shared with

This discloses no personal information collected to anyone else (unless required to by law), other than the fact that comments are assessed by Akismet to weed out spam comments, as outlined above.

Disclaimer. Due to the complexity and open nature of the Internet, no transmission of data over the Internet can be 100% secure. There is always a risk that information collected by and/or displayed may be compromised or accessed notwithstanding the steps we take to secure information. Accordingly, you agree that you are providing information at your own risk.

Advertising and commerce

This site does not knowingly participate in advertising, attempts not to display any adds and to provide no user information to advertisers.  There is a facebook page that displays blogs from this site that is subject to facebook’s advertising policies.

Security

Keeping this site and your information secure is of great concern. Security services are in place to identify breaches in this site. The site information is stored on a reputable service provider. The site can be accessed using either http:// or https:// By using https:// information you provide will be encrypted when transferred across the net. No transmission of data over the internet can be 100% secure.

If a security breach is discovered where it is believed your name, email, or URL, if provided, has been made public the site administrator will attempt to inform you by the provided email, Only those whose data still exists on the site at the time the breach will be contacted.

Children

This site is not directed toward children.  If it is learned that information has been collected from a child under the age of 13, the information collected will be removed immediately.

Changes and updates to this policy

We reserve the right to revise this Privacy Policy by updating it and posting it at https://greg.kenyonspage.ca/privacy-policy/, with the new terms taking effect on the date of posting. You are encouraged to periodically review the current version of this Privacy Policy. Your use of the Service after the Effective Date posted above constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

Accessing, updating, or deleting user content and personal information

To obtain a copy of your personal information (Name, email, URL, comments submitted) you may contact the site administrator at  info.greg@kenyonspage.ca.  The definition of personal information is information that clearly identifies you, generally by provided name, email, and personal url.

Good faith effort to resolve requests to correct inaccurate information will be made,  except where the request is unreasonable, requires disproportionate technical effort or expensive, jeopardizes the privacy of others or would be impractical.
